Microscopes

Project Brief

Year 11 students often study light the light microscope and examine some cells. There is so much more to microscopy. Microscopes are vital tools in research and are commonly used for studies in Botany, Zoology, Medicine, Pathology, Dentistry, Forensic science, Environmental Biology, as well as in metal fracture analysis and Geology.

This unit is designed to introduce students to some aspects of light and electron microscopy, showing images of living cells from light microscopes and also some samples from electron microscopes. A short segment shows some of the recent, exciting discoveries made at Adelaide Microscopy, at the University of Adelaide. Many scientists use microscopes in their research.
